Prof. Pellegrino Rossi

Full Professor

Prof. Rossi graduated in Medicine from the University of Rome Sapienza University of Rome, obtaining his medical qualification in 1981. After serving as a medical officer during military service, he began his academic career in 1984 as Researcher in Anatomy and Histology at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

During the early stages of his career, he conducted research training at leading international institutions including the National Cancer Institute, the National Institutes of Health (Bethesda), the MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston), and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, supported by fellowships from the International Union Against Cancer and the Arthritis Foundation.

He became Associate Professor of Human Anatomy in 1992 and Full Professor in 2001 at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where he has carried out teaching and research for several decades.

His teaching includes Human Anatomy courses for Medicine, Dentistry, Biomedical Engineering, and medical specialization programs. His research focuses on the molecular regulation of male germ cell differentiation and spermatogenesis, including meiotic progression, gene expression control, hormonal regulation, and the genetic basis of male infertility.

He has participated in numerous national and international research projects funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, the National Research Council of Italy, the World Health Organization, and the European Union.

 

Prof. Susanna Dolci

Full Professor

Full Professor of Human Anatomy since 2019 at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where she teaches Anatomy in the degree programs in Medicine and Surgery, Biotechnology, and Physical Activity and Health Promotion. At the same university she previously served as Researcher (1993–2000) and Associate Professor (2000–2019).

She graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from Sapienza University of Rome in 1985.. She obtained her PhD in Morphogenetic and Cytological Sciences from Sapienza University of Rome in 1991 and attended the Specialization School in Molecular Oncology at the University of L’Aquila.

She carried out international research activities as a Visiting Scientist at the National Cancer Institute (Frederick, USA), where she contributed to the identification of growth factors essential for the development of mammalian primordial germ cells, and as a Research Associate at the Gurdon Institute of the University of Cambridge.

Since 2021 she has been Coordinator of the PhD Program in Medical-Surgical Biotechnologies and Translational Medicine.

She is the author of  international scientific publications in the fields of germ cell biology, molecular oncology, and the pathophysiology of the reproductive and vascular systems.

Prof. Marco Barchi

Associate Professor

Prof. Barchi graduated summa cum laude in Biological Sciences in 1995 from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. In 2000 after obtaining the PhD in Medical Embryology, he moved to the USA to begin postdoctoral training at Columbia University (Prof Lili Yamasaki) and subsequently at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (Prof. Maria Jasin) in New York.

During his research activity abroad, Prof. Barchi was supported by two fellowships: the The Lalor Foundation and the American Italian Cancer Foundation Fellowships.

In 2005 he returned to Italy granted by the Italian Ministry (MUR) program “Rientro dei Cervelli” (Brain Gain/Rita Levi Montalcini program). In 2006 he became Assistant Professor in Human Anatomy at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, and was upgraded Associate Professorship in 2020.

Prof. Pamela Bielli

Associate Professor

Pamela Bielli is Associate Professor at the Department of Biomedicine and Prevention and Chair of Human Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, a position she has held since 2019.

Previously, she served as Temporary Researcher (RTD-B) at the same department from 2016 to 2019. From 2012 to 2016 she worked as a Researcher at IRCCS Fondazione Santa Lucia in Rome.

Earlier in her career, she held research fellowships at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” (2007–2011), the Pediatric Hospital Bambino Gesù in Rome (2006–2007), and the University of Rome “La Sapienza” through the Institut Pasteur–Cenci Bolognetti Foundation (2003–2005).

She also conducted research at the Vienna Biocenter, University of Vienna, Austria, first as a CNR Fellow for Research Abroad (2002–2003) and previously through research contracts (2000–2002).

Dr. Bielli obtained her Ph.D. at the University of Rome “Roma Tre” (1998–2001).

 

Her research has been supported by competitive grants, including an AIRC Investigator Grant (2022) titled “Exploiting splicing inhibition to overcome transcriptional addiction in prostate cancer” and a grant from the Italian Ministry of Health (2014) focused on the role of alternative polyadenylation in prostate cancer.

 

Prof. Paola Grimaldi

Associate Professor

Prof. Paola Grimaldi is Associate Professor of Human Anatomy at the Department of Biomedicine and Prevention of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where she is actively engaged in both teaching and research in the biomedical sciences.

She graduated with honors in Biological Sciences from Sapienza University of Rome and obtained her PhD in Morphogenetic and Cytological Sciences. Her academic career was preceded by extensive research training at the Italian National Institute of Health, where she was awarded several competitive fellowships and research contracts, including funding from the National Research Council (CNR) and the Italian Association for Cancer Research (AIRC).

Over the years, she has held several academic positions, becoming a University Researcher in 1994 and later Associate Professor in 2014 at University of Rome Tor Vergata. Lecturer in Human Anatomy in degree programs at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, and lecturer in the PhD Program in Applied Biotechnology and Translational Medicine.

Prof. Grimaldi’s research activity focuses primarily on reproductive biology and the molecular mechanisms regulating germ cell differentiation. Her work has significantly contributed to the understanding of reproductive endocrinology and, more recently, the role of the endocannabinoid system in reproduction, as well as the impact of cannabinoid exposure on male and female fertility.

She is the author of numerous scientific publications in international journals and has participated in several national and international research projects funded by institutions such as the CNR, the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MIUR), the Italian Space Agency (ASI), and the World Health Organization (WHO). She has also coordinated local research units and competitive university-funded projects.

 

 

Dr. Eugenia Guida

Tenure Track Researcher 

Dr. Eugenia Guida obtained a PhD in Medical-Surgical Biotechnologies and Translational Medicine in 2020 at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, with a thesis focused on the role of the BRAFV600E mutation and PTEN loss in glioma formation from adult neural stem/progenitor cells.

She earned her MSc in Biology from the University of Salerno in 2016 and her BSc in Biological Sciences from the same university in 2014. In 2017 she obtained professional qualification as a Biologist at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

Her training combines molecular biology, neuroscience, and translational research approaches to investigate mechanisms involved in brain tumor development.

 

Dr. Ambra Colopi

Research Associate 

Dr. Ambra Colopi obtained her PhD in Medical-Surgical Biotechnology and Translational Medicine in 2023 at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, with a thesis investigating the role of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) in the onset and progression of melanoma and schwannoma using mouse models. In 2018, she received her Master’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the same university, completing a thesis on how tumor genetic background influences IL-8 production in preclinical models of human colorectal carcinoma. Throughout her academic training, she has gained hands-on experience in experimental design, laboratory techniques, animal model handling, and data analysis, supporting her work in translational  research.
